Running Update

Woo Hoo! I just finished running my second 9 miler!!!! Alone! It was tough around the 6 mile mark, but I stopped for some gatorade around 7 and drank 20 oz. in about a minute! Seriously! That's all I needed to finish. The rest of the way went by rather quickly. The best part is that I haven't run all week, so I was surprised that I was able to last that long. Last week, Phil and I ran 9 together and he pushed me through. It was great. Next week, I'm going for 13.

And, when I got back home, guess what I realized? My nipples were bleeding!! Yeah! I'm back in the game! Battle wounds! I didn't even realize it until I looked at my white shirt, which is now ruined. I completely forgot to use the glide this morning, so I must have rubbed them raw. I thought you guys would appreciate it.

Last weekend, Phil updated me everyone's status. There are four of us running: Jay, Phil, Frank, Me. We discussed the rooming situation I suggested that Jay/Phil share a room and Frank and I will share one. One downside, I haven't made ANY reservations. I've been waiting to hear from Frank about it. Phil said he spoke to Frank last week and I received a text. Frank said he was still running, which was great news!

So, if there are any suggestions regarding the hotel situation, let me know!

Run with endurance!

Running Update

Well, guys, it's been a trying few weeks for me. Part of the bones below my knees started to give me problems around mid-March. It stopped me from running some long runs and the furthest I ran was about 5 miles. I started running only once a week and icing my legs almost every day. Last week, I ran for the first time without any pain. So, I'm getting back on my schedule, but I'll need to build up my cardio again.

The race is under 5 months away, so not all is lost. It's hard to believe it's getting this close. I am getting excited about it and am looking forward to training harder soon. Pray for one another as we continue our training.

Mercedes inspiration

Yesterday morning I went to watch some friends run the Mercedes Marathon. If I had any doubt about running Chicago this year, it was totally shattered. What an inspiration! Watching people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities running really made me want to get back into training mode. Now if I can just find someone who want to run with me at 2 AM, I'll be set......

And So It Begins...

Yep, I'm registered! Now, if I can only get to running on schedule! Here we go! I'd love to hear how everyone else's training is going.

Running The Race

Ten years ago, a group of people (4 guys and 2 girls) decided to train together and run our first marathon. It was 1997, and we ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. In spite of the rain and 40 degree temperature during the race, it was such a great experience, we all decided to run a marathon together every 5 years.

In 2002, we trained and ran the same marathon, but this time, we had sunny skies and a comfortable temperature. We also invited several others to join us, and there were approximately 10 of us running the race together. Since then, several of us continued to run and enter other races.

Well, this is the beginning of the training for our third race together - 10 years after that first one. After much discussion, we decided to enter the Chicago Marathon on October 7. Out of the 4 original guys who ran in 1997 and 2002, only one (Tony) is unable to join us because he will be in Australia.

This is a blog for all of the guys who are committed to running the race this year. Phil, Monte, Frank, Jay, and I are all planning to run and others may still decide to join us.

The first race was one of the best experiences in my life. The training, although difficult, was challenging and rewarding. The race was simply incredible. The cheering on the side of the road from everyone who came to watch, the runners who pushed and encouraged one another to press on, the men who met us when we crossed the finish line, and the feast that awaited us at the end. There's nothing else like it, and I'm excited about the opportunity to run again.

The race is on!
